Representation in Daily Mail Article

'Shame about the bedrooms! Scantily-clad women's sizzling selfies are overshadowed by their VERY messy backdrops'

A look into the usage of Representation in the article... :

Who/What is being represented here?:
  • Young women (supposedly of legal age, though no firm evidence is really provided of such)
How are they being represented?:
  • The article makes usage of apparently 'submitted' photographs of exposed women posing, though the issue implied by the writer is not the fact that these women are acting in such a way but because they have some of the 'messiest' bedrooms.
  • Blunt lexis of sexual implications is used here, such as 'sizzling' and 'scantily' within the title.
What is the message brought across due to this?:
  • The message is extremely juvenile, and essentially just about equates to young women are unintelligent, slutty and untidy.
Finally, what is the impact of the message?:
  • The impact of the article is that it causes young women to be viewed in a negative light, and stereotyped with little genuine reasoning as to such.
